Whittier College Provides Excellence in Education

December 11, 2009

When your high school junior is ready to look at college options, don’t overlook Whittier College. The college was founded in 1887 by the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker religion) and has evolved into one of the country’s finest secular liberal arts colleges.

The Whittier College campus encompasses 74 acres on the hillside above Whittier, California.
Athletics facilities include an aquatics center, a newly renovated track, and the 7,000 capacity Newman Memorial Stadium. The Whittier athletic teams are dubbed The Poets, in homage to the poet John Greenleaf Whittier for whom the institution was named. The Ruth B. Shannon Center for the Performing Arts includes a main stage, studio theaters, plus classroom space for the college’s drama program. The Rose Hills Foundation Center for Information and Technology Resources includes the campus library as well.

Whittier students can work toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in 30 possible majors. Grad students can earn a Master’s degree in education, and the Whittier Law School, located in Costa Mesa, confers Doctorates and Master’s degrees in law.

With an academic tradition based on the Quaker quest for personal growth, Whittier College offers excellence in education for students pursuing a Liberal Arts degree.
